My top weaning tips

Weaning can be exciting but also a bit daunting. Here are my tried and tested tips for making it a little bit easier and accessible.

01.

solid starts app

This is such a handy app. It gives you information on each food including nutrition, how to serve for the age of your baby, choking and allergies and basic recipes. It's really visually appealing and easy to navigate. I used it loads. It's also free.

Ikea high chair

The ANTILOP Ikea high chair probably needs no introduction due to its presence in just about every cafe going. But there's good reason it's so popular. It's easy to wipe down, it's fairly compact, the tray is detachable (again making cleaning that bit easier) and it's just £19. The supporting cushion and machine washable cover means that it is suitable from when a baby can sit unaided through to being a toddler.

03.

Doddle cutlery

This cutlery set is brilliant. The short, chunky handles make it much easier for the baby to hold and feed themselves. There's also a handy carry case for when out and about. I also found these which come in a two pack and are really reasonable at £8.99 for 2.

04.

Baby bare bibs

There's no two ways about it weaning is a mess business! I found these bibs in the sale of this cloth nappy site. I got a couple of the standard bibs and the smock style. They're lovely prints and wash so well - just throw in the machine and they come out like new. The smocks are also great for messy play.

05.

Reusable wipes

These are just so great and save a lot of kitchen roll and disposable wipes from landfill. Plus I genuinely prefer them and they're just brilliant at cleaning faces, hands, spills and surfaces. Like the bibs they get chucked in the machine with a normal load. I first got these Pop-In ones, but have also picked some up in Aldi that are perfectly good.

I can't believe it's baby food!

The idea of this book is recipes suitable for babies that the whole family can get involved in. I'm totally here for that although there are days when I obviously make 3 different dinners! The raspberry banana pancakes, lemony chicken orzo soup and minty lamb koftas are all hits!
